With the introduction of the Star Point, padel enters a new phase of regulatory evolution aimed at modernizing the sport without compromising its core identity.
From 2026, the Star Point system will be implemented across several circuits, including Premier Padel, CUPRA FIP Tour, FIP Promises, and the amateur FIP Beyond. The new regulation was unanimously approved on November 28 by the General Assembly of the International Padel Federation, which represents 100 national federations. This decision followed an extensive consultation process throughout the 2025 season involving players, coaches, promoters, broadcasters, and commercial partners, all of whom provided positive feedback. Final approval came after detailed discussions with the Premier Padel Steering Committees.
The Star Point introduces an alternative format for games that reach deuce. Once activated at the first deuce, the system unfolds in three stages:
First advantage
If the advantaged team wins the point, the game is won, but if the point is lost, the score returns to 40–40.
Second advantage
Winning the point secures the game.
Losing it sends play to the Star Point.
Star Point
A single, decisive point determines the game, with the winner taking the game outright.
By capping the maximum number of points per game, this system eliminates extended advantage battles. The result is a format that preserves the spirit of padel while supporting player welfare and delivering a faster, more engaging experience for spectators.
The Star Point will make its competitive debut in 2026 at the FIP Bronze Melbourne, the opening event of the CUPRA FIP Tour, scheduled from January 5 to 11. Its introduction to the Premier Padel circuit will follow at the Riyadh P1, taking place from February 9 to 14, marking the start of the new season for the sport’s top professional tour.
